Mark Tonkinson is a psychodynamic psychotherapist who maintains a private practice in Spring Hill, Brisbane. He was awarded an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy following a rigorous 5 year under grad and post grad training in London, UK. Mark has extensive clinical experience as a therapist within a range of settings including: British public mental health out-patients services; national NGO’s; tertiary education and within private practice both in London, UK and Australia. Mark has experience of providing brief, time-limited or open-ended psychotherapy. He is an experienced clinician with specific interests in relational trauma, maladaptive relationship behavioural patterns and development across the life span.
Mark has previously been employed as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist (D.I.T.), in a British National Health Service (NHS) public mental health out-patients department. Within this service Mark provided clinical assessment and D.I.T. as an individual psychotherapeutic treatment for mothers and fathers within the perinatal period. Mark met and exceeded all targets for outcomes of treatment for the large majority of his perinatal patients whilst at the service. The success of D.I.T. as a perinatal intervention led the service to apply D.I.T. within a perinatal care pathway linked into local public maternity departments. Mark passionately believes in the significant benefits afforded to parents and the wider family through accessing individual psychotherapeutic support as they face the many and diverse issues raised at conception and through the early years of their infant’s life.
